It's no surprise that all my kids were in serious need of haircuts, especially my boys. Fabian's hairline is structured to draw every bit of hair toward his face and his sideburns were growing completely out of control. I love the boy but seriously, he had this sort of Dr. Spock from Star Trek look going on for quite some time and in great need of a shape up coming by way of a haircut. Even my little guy Luis was more and more being mistaken for a girl even after donning all sorts of little boy attire. Crazy that people do that. Why is it that gender is so closely linked to the length or style of your hair? It brings me back to remembering how many people mistook Marissa for a boy when she was a baby just from the fact that she didn't have much hair on her head. I never quite understood how people could be confused -- after all, we made sure she was dressed in cute little pink outfits yet strangers would comment on what a cute little boy we had! They can't all be color-blind -- it happened to frequently to believe that! So anyways, when Rick returned home he freaked out at how much the boys' hair had grown and especially how long Luis' hair was which earned the baby a nickname of "little hippie". Needless to say, one of the first things Rick did was schedule haircuts for himself and his boys. I purposely waited for Rick to come back into town to take the boys to the barber shop. My feelings are that it's a guy bonding experience and I'd rather start Fabian off by letting him go to the barber shop with the guys instead of the beauty shop with the girls. Us girls took a day off for the beauty shop appointments but that's for another day's posting.
So Rick went to the barber shop with the boys. I was planning to go just for the mere sake that it was Luis' first haircut, but then Rick reminded me of how small the place was so I opted to send Marissa along so she could take pictures and also hold onto Luis while the boys were in the chair getting their haircuts. I've got pictures of the baby and they basically tell how it went. He wailed with huge tears flowing! (Which was another reason Mami stayed home!) Marissa took pictures to document his unpleasant experience. Poor little guy!
I can't get over the change in my little baby since his haircut! He's matured in so many ways! Not only does he look more like a toddler with his new 'do, but he acts so much differently. Some good, some bad behaviors. He's such a little character with the things he does.
Here's pictures from Luis' miserable little journey to the barbers. Isn't that little face pitiful?
